PH.D. POSITION ON BAND-GAP MEATAMATERIALS MODELING BY GENERALIZED CONTINUUM THEORIES
We seek a Ph.D. student who is strongly motivated in working on the simulation of band-gap metamaterials using generalized continuum models.
Since generalized models are a complex subject at the frontiers of which many disciplines meet, a taste for mathematics and its applications to mechanics and the ability in implementing numerical simulations will be fundamental criteria of choice.
The candidate must be able to convince about his/her aptitude to work in a team.
Perform direct simulations on precise microstructures to derive the dispersion relations of the corresponding metamaterials. This will be done using standard structural mechanics packages (e.g. Comsol Multiphysics).
- Implement FEM numerical simulations for generalized continuum models in order to catch the same dispersion behaviors and determine the generalized parameters by inverse approach.
